ENTERTAINMENT: Apple Inc Shuts Down ITunes!
Ladies and gentlemen, the end of an era is here. Not long ago, RIM (the makers of Blackberry) announced the end of Blackberry Messenger aka bbm.
Earlier today (Monday), head of software at Apple Inc. Craig Federighi announced that after almost 20 years of being a leader in music sales download platforms, iTunes is being shut down finally by next Monday.
What will happen to all the music on the current Apple Store? We're not told! However, the reasons for killing the platform was basically because it had become too slow due to the 'too many' features added on over time. There's also no doubt that the growth of rival platforms such as spotify has definitely put ITunes under immense pressure.
Not to lose all hope however, the decision is to 'unbundle' the platform, thereby creating 3 platforms to serve different purposes. With the killing of ITunes, the birth of Apple Music (which will serve as a music download, sales and streaming platform), Apple TV which will launch in the autumn (that one na around August) and will compete with Netflix and other TV/movie streaming platforms; and Apple Podcast.
So... There you have it ladies and gentlemen. From next week, your iTunes app on your mobile, tab and PC will go kaput. I hope all your music doesn't also go voom just like that o. Let's keep our fingers crossed and I hope these guys do not trick us by saying y'all need to upgrade your OS before you can access the new apple platforms. 🤣 (I know say that one go pain una for this naija as data connection de do us Willy Willy these days so)
